Goodbye I Love You 12th - 19th June

GOODBYE I LOVE YOU, an exhibition by Irish artist Caroline Walshe opens in ArtMart Studios on Saturday 12th of June at 7pm.

The exhibition comprises work made by the artist after the death of a close friend by suicide. Walshe combines image and text, juxtaposing traditional handicrafts with intensely distressing and difficult issues in a way that manages to be both beautiful and disturbing. The exhibition explores embroidery, quilt-making and photography, touching on very uncomfortable subject matter in a moving and profound way.

In a statement about the work, Caroline Walshe says:

“Fabric and the stitched word seemed the best possible way to communicate the horrific imagery left with me after this violent event. Embroidery gave the words and thoughts that were so difficult to say aloud a space to be expressed. Somehow the softness of thread and fabric, the beauty of stitching, the flexibility of the finished product and the comforting nature of textiles - we use them to clothe ourselves, to wipe our tears, to rest our faces on as we sleep - made textiles the best medium to convey the violence of the images, the nightmarish quality of suicide bereavement and the horror of the act itself.”

Opening night is on Saturday 12th at 7pm with refreshments, continues from the 14th – 19th of June, 11am – 5pm.

THIS EXHIBITION IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN.

Caroline Walshe's opening night of her exhibition Goodbye I Love You had a very impinging and profound atmosphere. The embroidery, quilt-making and photography projected the heartfelt loss of a friend in a delicate and beautiful way.
